The Associated Press reported Wednesday morning Gov. Tom Wolf will today unveil his proposal for a natural gas severance tax to help boost aid to public schools.
He will appear at the Caln Elementary School in Thorndale in Chester County.
During the campaign, Gov. Wolf said he would impose a 5 percent severance tax that would largely go toward public school funding
As part of Act 13 in 2012, the General Assembly adopted a drilling impact fee that has generated about $225 million a year, 60 percent of which went to local governments impacted by drilling. The existing impact fee is said to equal about a 1 or 2 percent severance tax.
