Penn State University will host an adult education class on Marcellus Shale natural gas development in Lancaster on February 3 at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road in Lancaster starting at 6:00 p.m.
Penn State researchers are seeking 50 adult volunteers 18 years of age or older from rural Lancaster and Lebanon Counties to participate in science and energy education research through the Marcellus Community Science Volunteer Program, a program funded by a National Science Foundation Grant.
The goals of the workshop are--
— Introduce the language and tools of science to advance rural adult residents’ literacy of science and engineering related to energy consumption, production, and policy
— Build conceptual knowledge on topics including shale geology, water resources, technology/engineering, energy policy, and risk assessment
— Build a shared knowledge base on science and energy to empower rural communities to make informed decisions about protecting natural resources, planning for community impacts, determining energy policy, and managing change.
Participants will receive a $100 stipend. Click Here for a volunteer application.
