Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Affiliates Hold Tire Collections

In the past nine years the collections, sponsored in part by the Department of Environmental Protection’s HHW/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program, have gathered over 39,000 tires from local residents.
“These collections provide a convenient, low cost alternative to the community. The tires that are collected at these events won’t end up over the hill where they would be difficult and costly to remove,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania beautiful.  “I really commend our affiliates for providing this yearly service. It allows residents to plan for proper disposal.”
This year also marks the ninth Tire War between Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful, Keep Juniata County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, and Keep Perry County Beautiful.
These four affiliates engage in an annual friendly rivalry to compete for the most tires collected at their perspective collections. The winner receives a hand-made “Gold Rim” award.
