Hawk Mountain Sanctuary To Host Native Plant Sale Sept. 13-14

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Berks County will host its annual Autumn Native Plant Sale September 13 and 14 outside the Sanctuary Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and featuring a wide selection of native trees, grasses, vines, shrubs and flowering plants.
Saturday’s sale also coincides with a Fall Pollinator Workshop, which will teach how to incorporate pollinator-friendly plants in the home landscape.
The Native Plant Sale is free and open to the public while the Pollinator Workshop costs $20 for non-members and requires advance registration by calling 610-756-6961. Both programs are held rain or shine.
Plant sale volunteers will be on hand to assist with all manner of questions on the right plant for your landscape, to carry purchases to vehicles, or even to watch over purchases in a holding area until 4 p.m.
The sale also offers a good excuse to explore the trails and visit the lookout during the fall hawk migration seasons where raptors can now be seen soaring south.
Native plants available for purchase will include asters, goldenrods, milkweeds, coneflowers, brown-eyed susans, and more. Visitors also can take home free pamphlets about using natives in home gardens, consult with experts on plant selection and care, browse the year-round selection of native plant gardening books for sale in the Visitor Center, or take in a free live raptor presentation at 10, noon or 2 p.m.
All proceeds from the sale benefit Hawk Mountain Sanctuary science and education programs.
