Keep PA Beautiful Announces Weis Markets As Great American Cleanup Of PA Sponsor

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Thursday announced Weis Markets, Inc. as their newest sponsor of the Great American Cleanup of PA, their annual signature event.
In addition to becoming a statewide sponsor, Weis has donated volunteer refreshments to the hard working volunteers in select areas across Pennsylvania.
“Weis Markets is pleased to partner with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful,” said Patti Olenick, Sustainability Manager.  “It is part of our commitment to sustainability, giving back to the communities we serve and being a locally relevant company.  We’ve been serving Pennsylvania communities for more than 100 years and we are excited to be part of the Great American Cleanup of PA.”
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and Weis Markets share the goal of promoting a sustainable environment and livable communities. The Great American Cleanup empowers citizens to do that locally. We are excited to count Weis as a Great American Cleanup of PA supporter,” said Shannon Reiter, President Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
Weis Markets, Inc. joins other 2014 event supporters: the Department of Environmental Protection, PennDOT, Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association, the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association, Waste Management, Republic Services, Steel Recycling Institute, and the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority.
Registration is open for the 2014 Great American Cleanup of PA which runs from March 1st to May 31st. During this period, registered events can get free trash bags, gloves, and safety vests from PennDOT district offices.
Events can be litter cleanups, illegal dump cleanups, beautification projects, special collections, and educational events. Events must be registered through the Great American Cleanup of PA website  to get free cleanup supplies.
As part of this event, the Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association are sponsoring Let’s Pick It Up PA – Everyday.  During the Pick It Up PA Days, registered event coordinators will be able to take the trash collected during their cleanup to participating landfills for free disposal. The Let’s Pick It Up PA – Everyday event will begin on April 12 and end on May 5. The focus day will be April 26.
Since the inception of this event in 2004, over 74 million pounds of litter and waste have been removed from Pennsylvania’s landscape, and over 100,000 of trees, bulbs, and flowers have been planted.
