The Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Environmental Advocate will host a community informational meeting on Thursday, August 8 from 6-8 p.m., at the Luzerne Township Volunteer Fire Hall in LaBelle, Fayette County.
The meeting is being held to discuss permitting and operations at a mine reclamation site owned by Matt Canestrale Contracting. This event is one of several outreach activities regarding this site organized by OEA.
DEP staff from the department’s Waste Management Municipal Waste Division, Southwest Regional Air Quality, and the Bureau of District Mining Operations will be available to answer questions and discuss the site with community members.
Residents of LaBelle have raised concerns about the impact of mine reclamation activity in their area. DEP inspectors have investigated air and dust complaints there in the past.
This meeting is part of the environmental justice enhanced public participation process that will allow community stakeholders and elected officials an opportunity to have a dialogue with DEP staff.
The OEA is committed to fostering communications between the agency and communities throughout the state. The goal of the Environmental Advocate’s office is to build environmentally aware, healthy and knowledgeable communities.
