The Scholarship was established following Ralph's death in June 1990 as a living memorial to Ralph Abele's dedication to conservation and education. Scholarships of between $1,000 to $2,000 will be awarded.
The Scholarship Fund has established the following guidelines for applicants for award:
-- Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania;
-- First preference in making a scholarship award is given to seniors in, or graduates of, the Greenwood Area School District. Second preference will be given to residents of Perry County and children of employees of the Fish and Boat Commission; and
-- Applicants must be high school seniors who have been admitted to an approved institution of higher learning with a stated objective of studying one of the environmental disciplines or students enrolled in an institution of higher learning (undergraduate or graduate) with a major or concentration in one of the environmental disciplines.
Scholarship selection will be based on an applicant's academic potential, his or her interest in conservation education, and his or her demonstrated commitment to conservation. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.
