As promised, Gov. Rendell this morning signed a "bridge budget" which vetoed all funding, except those line items related to paying state workers and critical to public safety.
Budget Secretary Mary Soderberg said only one-third of the appropriations in Senate Bill 850 were left in the budget. What remains is a $11 billion spending plan. $12.9 billion in funding was eliminated.
All funding in the departments of Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection were eliminated except for critical personnel line items. It includes conservation districts, local government funding for sewage enforcement and much more. (click here for a list of line items vetoed)
Generally, monies for school districts, institutions of higher education and the House and Senate were vetoed by the Governor as an encouragement for a full budget settlement.
