The Scouts will receive a $200 cash prize for their video of a cleanup project of Paul Valley Road and Valley Square Drive in Bucks County. Twenty-five scouts removed 42 bags of trash from the two locations.
“Our troop is so excited to be able to use this money to fund our Gold Award projects that will benefit our community. We are humbled by the generosity of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association,” said Gina Adams, Senior Troop Leader - Troop 21031.
A few of the projects the Scouts have planned include a summer guitar camp for underprivileged children where each child receives a guitar and song book to take home, coordinating a dress drive to provide prom dresses to high school girls who might not be able to purchase them and an LBGTQIA+ club at the middle school level to offer a safe space for all individuals.
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful would like to thank our sponsors, Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association and the Department of Environmental Protection and all those who participated in the 2021 Pick Up Pennsylvania Video Contest. We are honored to give back to the communities who help us keep Pennsylvania beautiful and thrilled to see the awards used to make a positive impact on the local community,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “These videos are a fun way to recognize the efforts of local organizations and promote and encourage our collective mission of making our communities clean and beautiful.“
Two runners up will receive a cash prize of $100 each and include Chester County Commissioners Office Cleanup and the Penn Lake Cleanup in Luzerne County.
Winners were chosen according to who received the most likes on Facebook during the voting period.
The three winning videos can be found on the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful YouTube page or Facebook page.
