Penn State Extension Water Team Invites You For Stormwater BMP Walk In Cumberland, Westmoreland Counties

Join an educator from the Penn State Extension Renewable Natural Resources Water Team for a Stormwater BMP Walk around several best management practices (BMPs) designed to manage stormwater from single-family homes and medium-sized commercial or institutional buildings.

The first two walks will be--

-- May 14: Greensburg, Westmoreland County

-- June 1: Carlisle, Cumberland County

BMPs to be covered will include rain gardens, rain barrels, permeable pavement, green roofs, and more.

These walks are for homeowners and other building managers who are interested in sustainable methods - sometimes called Green Stormwater Infrastructure - for reducing the runoff produced by their building.

What you will learn--

-- How to estimate the volume of stormwater produced by a rooftop

-- How to determine your predominant soil type and how it affects infiltration

-- Where stormwater goes after it leaves your property

-- How plants improve stormwater management
