PECO Natural Gas Conversion Program Brings Gas To Chester County Neighborhood

Rep. Warren Kampf (R-Montgomery/Chester) Friday announced a neighborhood in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County has met the criteria for a natural gas main extension as part of the PECO Smart Natural Gas Conversion neighborhood pilot program.
Last year, PECO received approval from the Public Utility Commission for a pilot program to reduce the cost of extending natural gas mains (gas service) to neighborhoods where natural gas currently is not available.
Area residents in a section of Tredyffrin Township applied for the program and successfully met the criteria to bring natural gas to their neighborhood.
“This is great news for the community.  There was ample demand for natural gas, and the residents worked together to make this happen.” Rep. Kampf said. “I have been working with members of this community over the last few years on getting natural gas service installed there, and I am very happy for all involved to see this come to fruition.”
In 2015, PECO unveiled a pilot program where it would spend $4 million per year for three years to extend natural gas lines into underserved neighborhoods.
PECO asked residents throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania to submit applications to gauge interest across their service area.  PECO then worked with these neighborhoods to examine the demand and feasibility for each respective area.
“I would specifically like to thank PECO for working with me and introducing this program to help bring natural gas to more neighborhoods, including this one in my legislative district,” Rep. Kampf said. “The people of this neighborhood came together and pushed hard to make this project happen.
“I give them credit and would like to specifically point out community leader Mindy Taylor for her tireless work on behalf of the area. Mindy has been a passionate advocate for this project and was the very first constituent to contact me on this issue and involve me and my office in getting natural gas extended to this area.
“I am very happy that this all came together and look forward to working with other neighborhoods as they express interest likewise,” Rep. Kampf concluded.
