The Department of Environmental Protection has named Krishnan Ramamurthy, a 36-year veteran of public service in the Air Quality Program, Acting Director of the Bureau of Air Quality.
The Bureau of Air Quality is responsible for protecting air quality by implementing the state Air Pollution Control Act and the federal Clean Air Act and for developing strategies for reducing methane and other climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions under the federal Clean Air Act and the Pennsylvania Climate Change Act.
Ramamurthy began his career as a Regional Air Pollution Control Engineer in DEP’s Southcentral Regional Office in 1980.
He then moved on to be Chief of the Control Technology Unity in the Division of Abatement and Compliance and then Chief of New Source Review Section in the Division of Permits.
His most recent position was Chief of the Division of Compliance and Enforcement in the Bureau.
Ramamurthy has served as DEP’s representative on the Environmental Justice Workgroup, Regulatory Advisor for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has received DEP Awards for Excellence for several projects.
He has Bachelor's and Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering.
