The Senate Democratic Policy Committee will hold a hearing May 5 in Erie on environmental and recreational impacts related to developing gas drilling, with a focus on concerns in the Lake Erie watershed and Northwestern region of Pennsylvania.
The hearing will be held in the H.O. Hirt Auditorium of the Blasco Library, 160 E Front St, Erie starting at 10:00 a.m.
Chaired by Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-Lehigh), the committee is expected to focus on gas drilling threats to the watershed ranging from clean water withdrawal to wastewater issues.
Joining the senators for the discussion will be:
-- Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper;
-- Lou D’Amico, President and Executive Director, PA Independent Oil and Gas Association;
-- Marsha Haley, medical doctor (radiation oncology);
-- Sister Pat Lupo, Benedictine Sisters, Environmental Education and Advocacy of Erie County;
-- John Rossi, PA State Chapter of the Sierra Club; and
-- John Walliser, PA Environmental Council.
The hearing was requested by Sen. Sean Wiley (D-Erie).
